Colder Air on the Way, Snow for Christmas? Got your attention...
Before I talk about the headline, let's talk about the rest of this week.
A chilly night with temperatures in the 40s and 30s. Here are the overnight lows.
Tomorrow will be warmer and a bit breezy. Mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid to low 70s.
STRONG COLD FRONT WEDNESDAY NIGHT...
A stronger cold front will arrive Wednesday night and bring us some colder air Thursday and Friday. During the day on Wednesday we will start with cloudy skies and a little light rain possible in the morning. By the afternoon, a dryline will move past DFW and likely trigger a few showers east of DFW. We will experience gusty west winds and dry air arrive Wednesday afternoon. This will create a high fire danger Wednesday afternoon. The cold air gets here Wednesday night as a cold front pushes thru. Temps will fall into the 30s by Thursday morning with strong NW winds blowing on Thursday making it feel very winter like. Here is what the setup looks like for Wednesday.
CHRISTMAS STORM...
It looks like a strong upper level storm system will be sweeping into the southern Plains on Tuesday of next week. This looks to bring us a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Christmas Day. On the back side of this system, cold air will spill into the area. Some of the models are hinting that the cold air could get here before the precipitation ends. This could lead to a chance of wintry precipitation Tuesday night. It is still a long shot, given that it is very far in the future. But all the ingredients are on the table. It is just a matter of them coming together at the right time. That will be unknown until next Tuesday. Stay tuned!
Here is what the upper level pattern will look like for Christmas Day
Tuesday night is when the cold air arrives.
