Cold Rains Ahead

JeffRayDec30 by CBS11StormTeam on YouTube

The cloud cover is here, the light rain is streaming in from the southwest. We are setting up for a good soaking rain; just what the doctor ordered for the drought conditions across Texas.

OVERNIGHT

Highs today stayed in the upper 40's. Low will stay around 40° in the urban areas. A southeast wind, rain and clouds will hold the temperatures well above freezing. That said, don't be surprised if you notice some light sleet with that rain here this evening. It won't be enough to affect the roads.

MONDAY

We end 2012 on a wet note. Below you'll see a series of forecast images showing how we think this rain will pan out tomorrow. We ARE NOT expecting any severe weather with this system. Tomorrow morning the rain should be in full swing for the western half of our coverage area including the Red River Counties.

The rain will be heaviest in the first half of the day. It will be a cold rain, highs only will get into the upper 40's again. The winds will die down in the afternoon some; this will allow some fog to form. The rain will start to move east as we close the day.   The roads should have a chance to dry some across the evening.

Winds will turn to the north in the evening; this could squeeze out some drizzle and keep the fog around toward midnight.

Rain fall amounts will be heaviest along our northern tier counties:

Temperatures at midnight will be in the upper 30's and hold there the rest of the night.

NEW YEARS DAY: INSIDE WATCHING FOOTBALL

Tuesday looks to be a cloudy day with some light rain the first half of the day. Highs will only be in the mid-40's teamed with a north wind. Sounds like a good day to stay inside.

We are going to keep it dry to start the New Year. Temperatures should warm up a little, back into the upper 50's with some sunshine:
