Cheers To Motherhood! Moms Celebrate Love Of Wine Online

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Of the many universal truths out there, one that resounds with women everywhere is that motherhood is hard work. It's also arguably a dish best served with a chilled glass of chardonnay.

Jaya Davis of Arlington already had a long day with the kids.

"We started at 6:30 am with the boys, getting up and getting ready. And we came over from Arlington to see Ice at the Gaylord Texan," she said.

Now, it was 3 in the afternoon and time for some "Mommy Medicine."

"Wine is something that brings us together but it's more about the friendships and being able to unwind from our days and usually wine just happens to follow," Davis said.

Samanatha Munns, enjoying some champagne with her family, agrees.

"It's a very European and English thing to drink a glass of wine to just unwind. It's great after a day's work," she said.

And now, moms are turning to Facebook, more than 640-thousand of them, looking to share a glass of wine, find some advice or commiserate.

The pages have names like "Moms Who Need Wine" and "OMG I So Need a Glass of Wine or I'm Gonna Sell My Kids.

For moms who'd rather have some face time with someone, there are live webcasts where women talk about holiday decorations and wine.

There are critics.

Kim Hanton, a counselor, said, "Kids will not necessarily become what we tell them to become but what we show them."

Marile Borden, founder of "Moms Who Need Wine," said, "Dad comes home and says I need a beer and nobody blinks. But mom says motherhood is hard. I need a glass of wine and there's suddenly a million critics out there."

Wine sellers have taken notice with targeted ads or special seating.

Jed Bernstein with the Ocho Kitchen said, "Because we as parents, I'm a parent as well, go through Monday to Friday. We just want to relax a little bit. Even the noise level of kids, we don't want that. So, that's why we know that downstairs, is where the families are. And, upstairs is where the adults are."

For some North Texas moms, a little wine to unwind is a way to relax, escape and toast the joys and challenges of the best and toughest job in the world.

Studies show women already buy 77-percent of all wine and drink 60-percent of it.
