Cement Truck Crash Snarls Arlington Traffic
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A cement truck crash shut down a portion of Interstate-30 in Arlington early Wednesday morning, and left drivers caught in a massive backup. The incident happened at about 3:30 a.m. on the eastbound side of the roadway, near the ramps to Highway 360, right next to Six Flags Over Texas.
According to authorities at the scene, the driver of the cement mixer was heading into the highway's HOV lanes, which are under construction as part of a project stretching east toward downtown Dallas. The driver apparently did not see some metal rebar which was sitting on the ground. It caused one of the truck's tires to blow out.
The cement truck driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The truck ended up on its side, resting on a concrete barrier.
Crews were called in to upright the cement mixer and tow it away from the scene. But the crash had spilled diesel fuel all over the highway lanes. It took workers several hours to clean up that mess. The interstate was opened fully again at around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
The driver of the cement truck was not injured during the crash.
The road construction project where the crash took place is expected to be done sometime next year.
