Big Time Rain On The Way For DFW
BIG WEATHER STORY: HEAVY RAINFALL
This snapshot above is taken from our in-house algorithmic computer model called the FutureSky Forecast. The model is highly respected in the industry for its high resolution quality and its rapid update cycle of three hours. That means our storm team works with no more than three hour old data. And this is important during a rapidly changing weather situation like the one presently on our hands.
Three things have changed with the approaching upper level low. The first is the track. Which is more north than orginally forecast and will move directly over North Texas. The second is the timing or onset of rain. Also earlier than forecast. The third is heavier rainfall is expected which is a factor of the changed track.
While the snapshot shows two to over three inches of rain just south of the Metroplex for Friday and Saturday, the actual location of the heaviest rainfall may change. But, the amounts are likely a very good estimate of what is possible for parts of North Texas. This means flash flooding and flooding are possible for many North Texans and we should all be vigilant about the weather going into the weekend...especially for the southern half of North Texas.
TODAY:
Another nice day with early sunshine giving way to mostly cloudy skies by the midday hours and into the afternoon. These will be high clouds coming off of the storms to our southwest from the upper level low. A few showers/storms may push into the Brownwood area, but most of North Texas will dodge the rain. Temps will push to near 80 by noon, then hover there as the clouds increase. High 82. Winds: ESE 5-10.
TONIGHT:
Mostly cloudy with light rain possible during the evening hours (30 percent)…but more likely after midnight (60 percent). Low 66. Winds: SE 5-10.
FRIDAY MORNING COMMUTE:
Showers and a few storms likely especially from the Metroplex southwestward. Rain chance: 60 percent. Temps: 64-68. Winds: SE 5-10.
FRIDAY MID-MORNING INTO AFTERNOON:
Periods of showers and storms with locally heavy rainfall possible (1 to 3 inch amounts) especially southern half of North Texas. Lightning will also be a concern. Rain chances: 80 percent. Temps: 72-76. Winds: NE 5-10.
FRIDAY EVENING:
Periods of showers and storms are still likely. Again locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be concerns. Rain chances: 60 percent. Temps: 68-72. Winds: NE 5-10.
SATURDAY:
From morning into the afternoon, shorter periods of showers and storms with bigger breaks in the rain pattern. Mostly cloudy skies. Rain chances: 30 percent. High: 80. Winds: N 5-10.
MOTHER'S DAY:
No snapshot needed. Rain gone! Partly cloudy and beautiful…just like our mothers. Low: 62. High: 82. Winds: N 5-15.
