Big Chances Ahead
You might have noticed today the heat wasn't has bad as late. In fact Saturday's high at DFW was the coolest day in a month!
For Sunday the day starts in the mid-70's; some locations along the Red River will actually be in the 60's. With sunshine and a slight southeast wind highs will rise in the upper 90's. There is a slight chance for afternoon storms in the southeast corner of our coverage area:
The weather news of late has been the dry spell. The irony is that we had one of wettest Springs on record here in North Texas. Now we are suffering the longest dry spell at DFW in the last 15 years.
Good news, that streak will end this work week. And with the rain will come cooler temperatures, perhaps the coolest since the Summer Solstice. Last weekend we had the hottest day in the last three years as the upper-level ridge set-up right over the Lone Star state:
Currently the ridge as shifted to the west allowing for more typical August temperatures (upper 90's).
But in the middle of the week a significant weather pattern shift will take place. The ridge moves off the shore of California and a deep trough moves into the middle of the country:
This will allow for something very rare for August, a cold front will make it into North Texas. The rain chances start Wednesday and go into Thursday:
So in the span of 12 days we'll go from hot to typical to cool (for August):
Here is the extended:
