Baby Born On Highway After Texas Mom Gets Caught In Construction

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - If it's true that ladies love to make an entrance, 10-day-old Annuhbelle already has the move down pat. Just ask her Mom, Ana Soto of Haltom City.
"I'm literally yelling that the baby's coming—I can feel her coming! I can feel her coming!"
If you're already suspecting that this panic didn't play out at a hospital, you'd be right. Just 10 minutes into what should have been a quick trip to the hospital, Ana's dad ran into a highway construction roadblock along Loop 820 in Fort Worth.
"My Dad got out and was going to ask the officer if he could move so that we could go by," recounts Ana, "but, by then, it was too late, because the baby was already here."
Fort Worth Police Officer Robert Scott rushed to the passenger side of the car just in time to lend a hand—literally.
"I was able to get in and get my hand behind the head, and just do a quick inspection, turn the baby sideways, make sure they didn't breathe in any fluid, make sure she's crying, and then cover her up with blankets," Scott remembered vividly.
If it sounds like he's done this before. He has… as a MedStar EMT. Still, this first delivery as a Fort Worth police officer was pretty special.
He said it's, "something that not everybody is involved with, with a life coming into the world. It's very cool."
New mother Ana will, of course, have lots of stories to tell her sweet girl one day about her 'side-of-the-freeway-arrival.' But, for now, she's just grateful.
"She's good. Everything is good—even though she was born in the car!" she said with a laugh.
