Probation For Anonymous-Linked Man's Mom
DALLAS (AP) - The mother of a writer and activist connected to the hacking collective Anonymous has been given probation for hiding her son's laptops from federal agents executing a search warrant.
Karen Lancaster McCutchin apologized Friday for letting her "better judgment" become clouded by "maternal instinct."
She pleaded guilty in May to obstructing execution of a search warrant related to a federal investigation of her son, Barrett Lancaster Brown. Prosecutors say she agreed to hide two laptops belonging to Brown in a kitchen cabinet to conceal them from FBI special agents.
Brown faces three separate indictments that include accusations of making threats to a federal agent and posting a link to stolen information. His case has gotten widespread attention among groups who believe he's being unfairly prosecuted.
