2nd Child Dies After Denton 4-Vehicle Crash

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) — Denton police said the 8-year-old boy taken to a hospital in critical condition following a four-vehicle accident on Highway 380 on Saturday has died.
Denton police also said Sunday the first child to die as a result of the accident has been identified by the medical examiner as an 11-year-old girl, not a 12-year-old boy as they originally reported.
Investigators determined the children were in a Nissan minivan sitting at a red light in the left lane of westbound Highway 380 at the Mayhill Road intersection at the time of the crash. A Dodge Dakota and a Kia passenger car were sitting in the center lane at the red light.
Police said a fast-driving Ford F-350 crashed into the back of the minivan without stopping. The force sent the minivan into the Dodge Dakota, and the Dodge Dakota into the Kia in front of it. No one was injured in the Dodge or the Kia.
Three children were in the minivan: A 4-year-old boy and the 8-year-old boy were sitting in the middle row, and the 11-year-old girl was in the third row. The two boys were both airlifted to Children's Hospital in Dallas, where the 8-year-old later died from his injuries, police said. The 4-year-old was still in critical condition as of 1:25 p.m. Sunday, police said. The girl was pronounced dead at Denton Regional Medical Center shortly after the crash.
Two adults were also in the minivan: an adult man in the front passenger seat and an adult woman in the driver's seat. They and the driver of the Ford F-350 were all treated for minor injuries at Denton Regional Medical Center and released, according to police.
Police are continuing to investigate.
