13 Students Charged In Texas State Drumline Hazing

SAN MARCOS (AP) — Thirteen members of the Texas State University marching band have been charged with misdemeanor hazing after what campus police describe as an initiation involving alcohol.

The university's student affairs vice president, Joanne Smith, says the 13 also have been suspended from the band.

The case stems from an incident the night of Auguse 31, when campus police encountered a vehicle parked on campus with several students inside. Smith says further investigation determined that upper class band members had directed drumline freshmen to a nearby apartment where they were blindfolded and served alcohol.

Aside from those charged with hazing, two students have been charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor and one with giving a false report to a police officer.
