Ashley Velie

Ashley Velie started her career with CBS News in 1998, working in London and Tel Aviv before returning to New York, where she has produced for 60 Minutes since 2011. Her work includes coverage of Afghanistan, Israel and Gaza, mass shootings, maternal health, migrant smuggling, children's mental health, PTSD and veterans, and politics.

In 2016, Velie and CBS News correspondent Jim Axelrod won a Peabody for "Heart of the Epidemic," a four-part investigation into West Virginia's opioid crisis.

Since 2020, Velie has collaborated with correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi. In 2021, they were two of the first Western journalists to enter Afghanistan following the withdrawal of U.S. troops.

She graduated with honors from Syracuse University with a degree in journalism and political science.
