NASA described the Ursids as "a meteor shower for diehards only." It is set to peak Thursday night into Friday morning.
The Orionids are known for their brightness and speed, traveling at about 41 miles per second.
Suzy Kop, a resident of the home, told CBS Philadelphia that the object landed in her father's bedroom.
"Depending upon the type of meteorite this is, specimens could easily be worth their weight in gold," said an official at the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum.
A meteor fragment has been found in El Sauz, Texas on private property.
A mysterious object crashed into Texas this week, shaking neighborhoods near McAllen in the southern part of the state near its border with Mexico.
The 1-meter asteroid was discovered just hours before it hit Earth's atmosphere and almost 10 years to the day that an asteroid about 20 times bigger hit Chelyabinsk, Russia.
Russia is launching a mission to rescue three crew members from the International Space Station. A Soyuz capsule which was meant to bring two cosmonauts and a NASA astronaut back to Earth was damaged after being hit by a micro meteoroid last month. Instead, Russia will launch an unpiloted Soyuz to the space station in February to return them to Earth. CBS News space analyst Bill Harwood explained the details of the mission.
NASA successfully crashed its DART spacecraft into an asteroid in hopes of altering the space rock's trajectory. Scientists hope to be able to use a similar strategy to protect Earth from future incoming asteroids. CBS News' John Dickerson speaks with Derrick Pitts, chief astronomer at Philadelphia's Franklin Institute, about the historic implications of this unprecedented test.
It turns out it's more of a "bloop" than a "boom."
Was it a shooting star, space debris or maybe even a satellite? Here's what researchers think about the massive fireball that shot across the U.K. sky.
Even Utah's governor, out for a run, heard the boom, which was caused by what the National Weather Service said was a meteor.
Dashcam footage from a Tesla shows a fireball streaking through the sky, as seen from a freeway in Houston on Sunday. The American Meteor Society says it received more than 580 reports of sightings in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma that night.
A meteor was captured on video last week streaking across the night sky above Santiago, Chile.
The fireball disintegrated 34 miles above a swampy area, generating "an energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT," NASA said.
