Louisiana is trying to recover after deadly floods ripped through the Baton Rouge area. CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca has the latest.

Surviving La. flood crisis
Historic flooding in Louisiana has claimed at least seven lives. More than 11,000 people are staying in shelters, and more than 20,000 have been rescued from rising water. But people have pulled together throughout the devastated region to give each other support. Jamie Wax reports on an army of volunteers known locally as the "Cajun Navy."

Historic flooding since Friday in Louisiana is responsible for at least seven deaths. More than 11,000 people are homeless. Much of the southern portion of the state is under a flood warning. Omar Villafranca went along on a search-and-rescue mission into a flood zone in Ascension Parish.

At least two people are dead as historic floods slam the deep South. Over a foot and a half of rain has fallen in parts of Louisiana, which is in a state of emergency. More than a thousand people have been rescued. There is also flooding in Mississippi and Alabama. Omar Villafranca has more.
Deadly floods in Louisiana
Millions of Americans are bearing the brunt of a stormy and potentially dangerous summer swelter. Heat warnings and advisories are posted in 14 states, while severe thunderstorms are expected from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes. Louisiana remains under a state of emergency, as a slow-moving and deadly storm has left more than a foot of rain since Thursday. Omar Villafranca reports from the hard-hit community of Hammond.
