The Simpsons - 'Bart The Mother' - Season 10, Episode 3

Bart tends to a nest filled with eggs after he inadvertently kills a bird with a BB gun.

The Simpsons travel to a family fun center, where they enjoy riding in bumper cars, hitting pitches in batting cages and even a game of skeeball. Meanwhile, Nelson uses a screwdriver to jimmy open a machine that dispenses prize tickets. He uses his ill-gotten gains to purchase a BB-gun. A jealous Bart realizes he is many, many tickets shy of the total required to win a gun. Nelson invites him over to his house to fire the weapon, stating that it never hurts to have an extra set of fingerprints on a weapon. But Marge forbids her son from hanging out with the notorious bully. Despite his mother's warning, Bart nonetheless makes his way to Nelson's house. There, Nelson goads Bart into shooting the gun at a bird perched in a nearby tree. But Bart deliberately aims to the right of the bird before he pulls the trigger. Despite this, the bird tumbles from its nest and falls to the ground, dead. Nelson then informs Bart that the gun site is crooked. Bart slumps, guilt-stricken.

Marge realizes Bart disobeyed her instructions not to visit Nelson. She confronts her son in the Muntz's backyard, where Bart positions himself to keep the bird from her sight. But Marge eventually learns the truth. Instead of meting out punishment, a disgusted Marge tells Bart to play with his hoodlum friends, and to "have fun killing things." She then storms off. Moments later, Bart notices several eggs inside the bird's nest. Consumed with guilt, Bart climbs the tree and retrieves the nest, promising the unborn chicks he will care for them. After viewing an instructional video on birds, Bart places the nest in his tree house and keeps the eggs warm using a light bulb. Puzzle by Bart's movements in the tree house, and fearing Bart might be up to more mischief, Marge climbs the tree house ladder and confronts her son. But she melts when she realizes Bart is tending to the dead bird's offspring. The nest is relocated to the kitchen, where its temperature is warmed with freshly baked pies. Suddenly, the eggs begin to crack… and two rather mean-looking lizards spring forth.

The family transports the animals to a meeting of the Springfield Bird Watching Society. There, Principal Skinner identifies the creatures as Bolivian Tree Lizards. Such a creature feasts on birds eggs and then lays its own eggs in the nest, which are tended to by the unsuspecting mother bird. The Society members conclude that the lizards must be killed to keep them from escaping and breeding in the wild. Bart, however, objects to the idea. He grabs the box containing the creatures and dashes up a stairwell, eventually ending up on the rooftop of the building. Skinner grabs for the box, and during the struggle, the lizards hurl from the container and plummet towards the ground below. Suddenly, the lizards spread their limbs, and using flaps of skin, glide gently earthward. Weeks later, newsman Kent Brockman announces that the tree lizard population has exploded—resulting in the decimation of Springfield's pigeon population. Townspeople cheer at the news.
