Tech Report: New TVs for 2012

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- KCBS technology analyst Larry Magic said flat screen TVs will get slimmer and use smart-phone screen technology in the coming year.

LG Electonics is planning to unveil a 55-inch set, which will be 3/ 16th of an inch thick.

Magid said the TV will be very energy efficient and have richer colors and a better picture overall. They won't come cheap, he said.

"I'm told that it will be about $5,000 or more for the larger sets," he said. "These things are very expensive to make, but like any other technology, they're going to get cheaper over time."

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:

Magid said he thinks the sets will be a big draw at an upcoming consumer electronics show since they represent the next generation.
