Tech Report: Driving With An Android Phone

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Google has released software that makes smart phones running the Android platform easier and theoretically safer to use while driving.

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid Reporting:

The app turns the phone screen into a checkerboard of large, easy-to-punch icons for frequently used functions such as GPS, maps and, of course, dialing.

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid compared the no-eyes, fingers-only functionality to much simpler flip phones. And the app launches with a warning meant to discourage users from distracted driving.
