Suspicious Package Found In Downtown San Francisco Cleared

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – San Francisco police said that a suspicious package found on Market Street Wednesday afternoon has been cleared and streets have reopened.

The item was reported in the area of Market and O'Farrell streets at about 12:50 p.m Wednesday.

Streets in the area were closed for just under an hour. A shelter-in-place order was issued for area businesses and residents were asked to avoid the area, police said.

At about 1:41 p.m., the San Francisco Police Department Twitter account posted that the order had been lifted and the streets reopened once the package was determined to be safe.

Facebook user Tina Rodriguez posted a video that showed a block of Market Street closed down with bomb squad and fire vehicles parked on the block.

The SFMTA also tweeted that Muni service was temporarily suspended on that block of Market Street.

Police had yet to offer any details about the package.
