South Bay Officials Move Forward With Plans To Connect Trails

SAN JOSE (KCBS) - A plan to connect three trails in Silicon Valley has taken a giant step forward, as Santa Clara County officials are contributing $2 million to buy the additional land.

The money would be used to connect the Los Gatos, Guadalupe and Coyote Creek Trails.

Bonnie Reagan regularly runs on the Los Gatos Creek Trail and said this is welcome news.

KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:

"If you're a distance runner, the trail ran out for me when I was training for a half marathon," she said. "I had to go down to Vasona Park and then turn around and come back. This would give me a longer distance to run in a connected way without having to do traffic in the streets and do street lights."

San Jose Councilman Pierluigi Oliverio, who represents Willow Glen, said this is an important issue for San Jose residents.

"I think all residents citywide are looking forward to these connections," he said. "This provides an excellent opportunity to connect Los Gatos, Guadalupe and the Coyote Creek Trail."

Santa Clara County is buying the land from Union Pacific, which has agreed to clean it up before selling it.
