Somersville Fire in Antioch 100% contained, over 350 acres burned
Fire crews announced that the Somersville Fire in eastern Contra Costa County, which led to an evacuation warning in an Antioch neighorhood, has been fully contained less than 24 hours after it started.
In an update Thursday afternoon, Cal Fire said containment has reached 100% and that the fire has burned 358 acres.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said calls about a vegetation fire began just after 7 p.m., and that it began near the 4500 block of Somersville Road.
Con Fire said it had a moderate rate of spread with the potential to get larger. By 9 p.m., the fire had burned 209 acres.
An evacuation warning was issued around 8:50 p.m. and was lifted just before 10 p.m.
Con Fire said an assisted living facility was in the evacuation warning zone, and the residents were evacuated as a precaution. Fire crews moved four people out of the home.
One of them was taken by ambulance for a smoke inhalation injury. The rest were able to self-evacuate.
One woman went to the area to evacuate her father.
"Firemen, all I can do is give them praise for keeping everyone safe," she said.
Con Fire said a total of four people were treated for smoke inhalation due to the fire.
An air quality advisory was issued by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District due to the smoke from the Somersville Fire.
"Wildfire smoke contains fine particulate matter and other harmful pollutants. Exposure to wildfire smoke is unhealthy, even for short periods of time," the Air District said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
