Armed Suspect Sought For San Jose Mall Robbery
SAN JOSE (BCN) -- A man remains at large after robbing cash from a mall sales clerk at gunpoint Thursday evening, but not before making several failed robbery attempts at shops in San Jose and Santa Clara, according to San Jose police.
The incident began when police received reports that a man in his 20s or 30s had entered a Club Monaco store inside the Westfield Valley Fair Shopping Center on 2855 Stevens Creek Blvd at about 5:20 p.m., San Jose police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said.
KCBS' Betsy Gebhart Reports:
The man, who was seen wearing a trench coat, apparently pointed a rifle at a sales clerk and demanded money, Lopez said.
For some reason, the man didn't finish robbing the clerk, and instead made his way to a parking garage near a Nordstrom store.
He then attempted to carjack a female victim at gunpoint, but also didn't finish the carjacking, Lopez said.
The Nordstrom and Club Monaco stores were both on the side of the mall located in San Jose, but the mall itself sits on a border between San Jose and Santa Clara, Lopez said.
The man moved to the Santa Clara side of the mall and attempted to steal a car from a parking lot near a Wells Fargo bank, but was again unsuccessful, Lopez said.
He then entered a Men's Wearhouse in the mall and successfully stole an undisclosed amount of cash by demanding it from a sales clerk at gunpoint, Lopez said.
After fleeing the store, the man made his way to Cecil Avenue and carjacked a victim at knifepoint, Lopez said.
Police describe the stolen car as a white Nissan Altima with license plate number 6NDA586.
Lopez urged anyone with information on this man to call 911.
