SJ to Vote on Oakland A's Stadium

San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed is sticking by his plan to ask city voters to approve building a stadium for the Oakland A's even before he has the go ahead from Major League baseball.

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig sent a letter to the city last week saying he was "disappointed" to hear that the mayor was taking steps to put the measure on the November ballot. He called the move premature.

Reed disagrees. He says the city council is facing an August 3rd deadline for putting a measure on the ballot and he is confident it will pass.

Reed says he hasn't talked to Selig recently, but he's certain that major league owners will take the city more seriously if the measure moves forward.

A baseball committee looking into the move will meet with Reed again Monday. Reed is on the East Coast and is set to meet with baseball officials this week.
