Six Hurt in San Jose Crash

Six people, including three children, were injured Tuesday when a man wanted on a felony arrest warrant allegedly fled California Highway Patrol officers, ran a red light and broadsided a sedan driven by a mother in San Jose.

Police say one of the victims is a 15-year-old girl who was ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened at about four p.m. Tuesday. Police say 24-year-old Bernardino Cuevas ran a red light at East San Fernando and South Tenth streets.

Cuevas was allegedly fleeing CHP officers, who tried to pull him over for a traffic violation. When he ran the red light, Cuevas struck a red Mitsubishi driven by a 35-year-old San Jose woman.

The woman suffered moderate injuries. Her 15-year-old daughter was ejected from the front passenger seat, and her two sons, ages 12 and 6 sustained critical injuries sitting in the back seat.

Cuevas and a female passenger in his car both suffered minor injuries.

Cuevas faces felony charges for evading police.
