SFPD Clears Scene Of Bomb Scare In North Beach
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- A San Francisco police bomb squad cleared the scene of a bomb scare in the city's North Beach neighborhood Monday night.
Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Columbus Avenue, near Vallejo Street, around 7 p.m., police said.
Police told CBS 5 a woman who works at the Federal Reserve had a psychiatric breakdown and told her employer that she fired a shot through her apartment door in North Beach.
According to police, they found several weapons, including swords and possible explosive devices when they arrived.
"She's a former Marine apparently, from what we understand. And she does have expertise in demolition," said Sgt. Patrick Tobin of the San Francisco Police Department.
The area was deemed safe around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
The activity forced the evacuation of a building, and created street closures around Columbus and Vallejo streets. The woman who lives in the apartment is currently being evaluated.
