Santa Cruz Court Bailiff Shoots Inmate With Taser

SANTA CRUZ (AP) -- Authorities say a court bailiff shot a jail inmate with a Taser stun gun during a scuffle at the Santa Cruz County courthouse.

Santa Cruz Fire Capt. Daniel Kline said firefighters were called around 9:25 a.m. Monday to the courtroom where the 26-year-old inmate got into an altercation with the bailiff.

Kline says the shackled inmate was lying on the floor, conscious and breathing, when the firefighters arrived for the medical call.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports the inmate, who was in custody on a robbery charge, was taken to a hospital to get treatment for minor injuries.
