San Mateo police ask public for help finding driver in deadly hit-and-run
San Mateo police are asking for help in finding the driver who fled the scene of a deadly hit-and-run on Saturday.
The victim of the hit-and-run was a 56-year-old man. Police said he was struck around 9 p.m. on Feb. 8, just west of the 1400 block of Fashion Island Boulevard.
Police are now asking anyone who was between South Norfolk Street to Chess Drive, or any of the adjoining streets, if they saw anything or have video from around that time. The timeframe they are searching for is between 8:45 p.m. and 9 p.m.
They are also searching for any dashcam footage. Drivers that were driving on Fashion Island Boulevard to or from South Norfolk Street could have video that would be helpful to investigators.
Police do not have any information about the vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Jolivette at 650-522-7784 or email them at jjolivette@cityofsanmateo.org.
"If you are the person responsible for this tragic accident, we encourage you to find the strength and courage to come forward vs. us having to find you. Leaving the scene of an accident is not an easy thing to carry and we understand that it is likely weighing on you. The stress of the unknown can be a heavy burden to bear, but we urge you to do the right thing and come forward.," police said.
