San Jose Highway 101 To Close Overnight; Carmageddon Unlikely

SAN JOSE (KCBS) - Both directions of Highway 101 from Capitol Expressway to the 280/680 connector will be closed for four consecutive nights starting Thursday, Caltrans said.

During the closures from 12:00 a.m. to 5:30 a.m., Caltrans will replace the Tully Road over-crossing and do work to reconfigure the interchange.

KCBS' Matt Bigler:

Officials said a Silicon Valley version of Carmageddon was very unlikely, even though some of the work will continue very early on Monday.

"The early warnings have been good," said Vin Do, a commuter who said he would heed the warning signs posted nearly a week ago.

Caltrans expects to finish the Tully Road project in winter 2012.
