San Jose Candidate Disputes False Identity Claim
SAN JOSE (KCBS) - San Jose City Council candidate Larry Pegram says labor unions are out to get him after they've released court documents and are claiming that he used a false identity to hide a bankruptcy.
The runner for the District 9 Council Seat supports pension reform and is going against Don Rocha. Pegram refutes the claim, blaming it on a typo and said the 14-year-old filing is an attempt at "political distortion".
"This is an attempt to discredit me and to discredit the ideas that are held by great people throughout the city," said Pegram.
Kevin Smith with the County Government Attorney's Association's Political Action Committee said the documents show that Pegram signed the name Lawrence Pellman in the document.
"If you have someone who would sign documents under penalty of perjury, which let me be clear, it's not a typo; I don't know how you can trust what they're going to do in the future," said Smith. He maintained that the false alias was signed in multiple locations.
