San Jose Anxious to Move Forward with A's Stadium as MLB Takes its Time

The A's stalled attempts to move to San Jose could be a hot-topic of conversation Tuesday night in Anaheim. Team co-owner Lew Wolff is expected to sit down with baseball Commissioner Bud Selig at the All-Star Game.

Wolff says he expects to meet up with Selig in Anaheim, but he tells the Mercury News they never talk business while watching baseball. The meeting comes as Wolff and San Jose continue to wait for word from Major League Baseball over whether the A's will be allowed to move to Santa Clara County, where the Giants claim territorial rights. The City Council must decide by August third whether to place a stadium measure on the November ballot.

Mayor Chuck Reed tells KCBS the next steps are up to Wolff.

"Whether he wants to move without Major League Baseball's permission is a decision he has to make, but I'm prepared to ask the council to put it on the agenda for our meeting August 3rd, and it would still be on time to get on the ballot in November," said Reed.

Reed has said he could request the council to put a stadium measure on the ballot even without the blessing of Major League Baseball.

Meanwhile, a new grassroots group called "Better Sense San Jose" officially launched yesterday vowing to fight public funding of a ballpark.
