SAN FRANCISCO -- Authorities in San Francisco on Monday morning asked the public to avoid the area of 16th Street and Mission in the Mission District after a shooting at the street-level plaza of the BART station.

The SFPD's Mission Station posted on social media about the activity at around 11:30 a.m. No specific details were provided about the nature of the activity. Additional details will be provided by authorities as they become available, the message said.

BART officials later confirmed that there was a shooting on the street level at the 16th St. Mission BART station. BART spokesperson Jim Allison said the victim was described as a man in his 20s who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The activity at the busy intersection in the Mission also led the SFMTA to reroute several buses to Van Ness Avenue between 17th Street and 15th Street. Riders are advised to catch the 49 Van Ness, 14 Mission and 14R Mission buses at 18th and Mission or 15th and Mission. The activity also rerouted the 55 bus to 15th Street and South Van Ness to avoid the intersection.

Shortly after 12 p.m., the SFMTA said that the 49, 14 and 14R were returning to their regular route, but noted that the 55 bus that travels on 16th Street was still being rerouted.
