San Francisco Man With Toddler In Arms Saves Neighbor From Fire
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A San Francisco man is being credited with helping an elderly woman get out of a burning apartment, even though he had a toddler in his arms.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Luc Martin was running out of his burning apartment building Thursday morning with his 14-month old girl in his arms when he heard cries of help coming from 71-year-old Georgia Pyles.
The newspaper said after the 30-year-old Martin found his neighbor on the floor of the apartment, overcome by smoke, he was able to help her crawl outside.
Pyles was taken to a hospital where she was in critical condition after suffering smoke inhalation.
Investigators believe the blaze, reported at 9:17 a.m., began when a lamp overturned in a bedroom.
Firefighters estimated the damage to the building at $1 million.
