ROHNERT PARK (CBS SF) -- A south Rohnert Park neighborhood was evacuated Tuesday evening after police received a report of a possible explosive device in a truck parked on Mary Place, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.
When officers responded at 6:30 p.m. and contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, they learned that the device was in an attached toolbox on the bed of the truck, police said.
The University of California at Berkeley Police Department's bomb squad was contacted, and the bomb squad asked Rohnert Park officers to evacuate homes around the truck as a precaution as the squad was en route.
The residents were evacuated and Mary Place was cordoned off by 8:30 p.m., police said.
The bomb squad removed the device from the toolbox, made sure there were no other dangerous objects in the truck, and then disposed of the device, according to the Department of Public Safety.
The street was opened and residents returned to their homes around 10:30 p.m. No further information about the device was available Wednesday morning.
