Rates Increase For Garbage Service In Redwood City

REDWOOD CITY (KCBS) – The cost for monthly trash hauling service is rising sharply in Redwood City.

Trash bills will rise 18 percent to about $25 a month after a reluctant city council vote.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

Residents are not pleased, especially after a rough service start to the year by Recology. Problems included broken down trucks and missed pick ups.

"We are working through those service issues," said company spokesman Adam Alberti. "We understand that you can expect a transition to result in some challenges. That doesn't make it okay and we are putting the full resources of the company on resolving those issues as quickly as possible."

Recology hauls trash from about a dozen Peninsula cities, most of which are currently considering rate hikes.
