Raiders Set Record For Most Penalties In An NFL Game, Still Manage To Win

By Rahul Lal

The Raiders have been known for their explosive offense this season but they've also been the most penalized team on the field. That only accentuated over the course of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the Raiders broke the single game record for most penalties committed with 23.

The Raiders had opportunity after opportunity to secure the victory but weren't able to convert until late in overtime. In the late fourth quarter, the Raiders' star receiver, Amari Cooper, dropped a surefire touchdown reception. That was followed by a missed field goal by one of the NFL's greatest long distance kickers ever, Sebastian Janikowski.

The Raiders would go on to win the game in overtime with under two minutes remaining. After tie games in consecutive weeks, the Raiders and Seth Roberts were looking to seal the deal on their last chance as quarterback Derek Carr and Roberts connected for a clutch touchdown to close out the game 30-24.

While it was tough to watch, the Raiders finished with 24 total penalties and a win. Give credit to the team for still finding a way to win the game and improve their record to 6-2 with a hold on the AFC West. Carr finished with 513 total passing yards along with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Both Cooper and Michael Crabtree reached over 100 yards receiving on the day as Carr made completions to nine different receivers. His 513 yards were good for ninth-most all time and he set the record for most passing yards in a game in Raiders' history.

The Raiders sit at the top of the AFC West with a 6-2 record. The Broncos and the Chiefs are both sitting at 5-2 as well. The Broncos will take on the San Diego Chargers (3-4) in an attempt to tie the Raiders at the top of the standings. Look out Raidernation, the silver and black are back.
