Oakland Police Suspect Homicide In Union Official's Death
OAKLAND (AP) -- Oakland police are investigating the death of a 64-year-old union official who they believe was the victim of a homicide.
Officer Holly Joshi told the San Francisco Chronicle that police discovered the body of Berresford "Berry" Bingham inside his home around 11:35 a.m. Tuesday. She said Bingham's co-workers notified authorities after they had not heard from him for several days.
Police said the body showed signs of trauma, but a cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:
Bingham was the political director of Local 616 of the Service Employees International Union. The union represents more than 13,500 public sector professional, clerical and technical employees in Alameda County.
