No Venue Change In Chauncey Bailey Murder Trial
OAKLAND (AP) -- An Alameda County judge has ruled that the trial for two men accused of murdering a newspaper editor will remain in Oakland.
The Bay Area News Group reported Thursday that Superior Court Judge Thomas Reardon denied a change of venue request for Former Your Black Muslim Bakery leader Yusef Bey IV and co-defendant Antoine Mackey.
Their lawyers requested the venue change because of media coverage of the case.
Bey and Mackey are charged in the killing Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey in August 2007. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Bey is charged with ordering the murders of Bailey, Odell Roberson and Michael Willis, who were killed in July 2007.
Mackey is charged with killing Willis with and helping confessed gunman Devaughndre Broussard kill Bailey and Roberson.
Bailey was investigating for a story on the nonprofit bakery when he was fatally shot in downtown Oakland.
