No Sail: Historic Battleship Iowa Departure Postponed

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- Sunday's scheduled final voyage of the USS Iowa from the Port of Richmond was delayed by a weather system affecting the West Coast. Organizers will reschedule the ship's towed voyage to the Port of Los Angeles following passage of the weather system.

The four-day tow of the World War II battleship by Crowley Maritime Corporation, across San Francisco Bay and then down the coast to the Port of Los Angeles, was scheduled to begin Sunday at noon.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

Updates regarding the tow schedule will be posted at www.pacificbattleship.com and the Facebook page of the Pacific Battleship Center. The nonprofit group has been renovating the vessel in preparation for operating it as an interactive naval museum in the Port of Los Angeles.

The USS Iowa, which served during World War II, the Korean War and the Cold War, is known as the Battleship of Presidents because it hosted Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
