Neighbors Unhappy With IKEA's Emeryville Expansion Plans
EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KCBS) - IKEA has been given a green light to open a new, 60,000 sq. ft. warehouse in the East Bay.
Some neighboring residents worry the project will harm their quality of life.
Customers would order furniture at the company's current store on Shellmound St., picking up larger items at the new warehouse. Neighbors, however, claim the project will bring traffic and noise to their otherwise quiet doorsteps.
"I mean, I have been losing sleep over this and I'm very, very concerned about my property values, my quiet enjoyment of my home," one woman declared.

IKEA insists the company needs the additional space to handle its growing customer base.
The store is described as a big success, but too small for its customers' demands.
Emeryville's Planning Commission approved the project by a 4-3 vote, though opponents can still appeal to the Emeryville City Council.
