Man Shot In Oakland While Daughter Plays In Nearby Park

OAKLAND (BCN) - A man who was shot in West Oakland on Thursday afternoon while his daughter played nearby in a park later succumbed to his injuries, a police spokeswoman said Friday.

Terrance Thompkins, 31, was shot several times at about 2:35 p.m.  Thursday in the 1600 block of 14th Street. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 3:55 p.m., Oakland police Officer Holly Joshi said.

Thompkins was shot while his daughter was playing in nearby Willow Park, Joshi said.

The gunman fled on foot and was still at large Friday morning, she said.

Police did not know the motive for the shooting, and a description of the suspect was not immediately available.
