Man Dies In Oakland Assault

OAKLAND (BCN) - A man was killed in an assault late Sunday night, Oakland police said.

At about 10:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Center Street on a report of a man lying in the street, Oakland police Sgt.  Sean Fleming said.

Police arrived on the scene and found a 60-year-old Oakland man suffering from wounds that Fleming said were the result of an assault with a deadly weapon.

The man was transported to the Alameda County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The type of weapon that the man was killed with is not yet being released, Fleming said.

The identity of the man is being held pending the notification of next of kin, he said.

No information about the suspect was available.
