Lawyer Says Most Mehserle Protestors Cited, Released

OAKLAND (AP) -- An attorney said a majority of 152 protesters arrested over the sentencing of a former BART Police officer in the killing of an unarmed man have been released.

Carlos Villarreal, executive director of the San Francisco Bay Area National Lawyers Guild, said about six people remained in jail Monday while other protesters were released after receiving citations to appear in court.

Police arrested the protesters Friday on suspicion of crimes including vandalism, unlawful assembly and disturbing the peace. The arrests came after Johannes Mehserle received a two-year prison sentence for involuntary manslaughter in last year's fatal shooting of Oscar Grant on an Oakland train platform.
