Larry Magid: Yahoo Reportedly Courts Katie Couric For Web Show

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Just a day after Yahoo passed Google in terms of U.S. Web visitors, the company's CEO Marissa Mayer is reportedly courting Katie Couric for a Web interview show on its homepage.

According to All Things D, Mayer is looking to strengthen the site's media efforts. The show would center on exclusive interviews with high-profile celebrities, business executives and newsmakers, and would be prominently featured on Yahoo's homepage.

Couric currently hosts the daytime talk show "Katie" on ABC and sources for All Things D said ABC would have to reach agreements about the scope of her role with Yahoo if the two sides come to an agreement.

Mayer has also met with executives from Conde Nast, with an interest in coming up with some sort of content deal with its flagship Vogue magazine.

Mayer has recently focused on strengthening Yahoo's online video efforts and according to All Things D, she is taking a hands-on approach, as she has been personally involved in trying to shepherd both deals.

On Wednesday, comScore released data that showed for the first time in more than two years, more Americans visited Yahoo websites than Google's in July.
