SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- They are among the most well trained and cared for city workers out there, because they do plenty of heavy lifting. Betty in Sebastopol asked this Good Question: Who feeds and trains the horses that San Francisco Police ride?
ANSWER: Kaan Chin, the Senior trainer for the SFPD mounted unit, said the horses are hand picked and trained to be able to mingle with people in very stressful situations.
The horses are fed and cared for by a special staff of handlers and are kept in excellent shape. The mounted unit patrols more than 1,200 acres of Golden Gate Park.
