Good Question: Were Buffalo Soldiers Stationed At The Presidio?

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) – They fought against Native Americans in the 1800s and served in the Philippines during the Spanish American War. Monica Blakely in Hayward asked this Good Question: Was there really a regiment of Buffalo Soldiers stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco?

ANSWER: Yes, the Buffalo Soldiers were at the Presidio in San Francisco. According to National Park Service interpretive ranger Will Elder, there were several regiments of "Buffalo Soldiers stationed at the Presidio after the Civil War. They also served as rangers at Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks.
