(CBS 5) – It's a process that turns a body into a unique scientific display. Katrin wants to know: How are bodies preserved for the "plastic man" exhibit?
ANSWER: According to Peter Freiss at the San Jose Tech Museum, the subjects in the exhibit were actual human beings who donated their bodies to be injected with a variety of chemicals upon death. They are permanently preserved using a specially developed plastic compound.
