Gang Member Jailed In Santa Rosa Drug Bust

SANTA ROSA (BCN) - A known gang member was arrested in Santa Rosa on Sunday after a months-long investigation led to his being found with a large amount of various narcotics, an abundance of cash, and a loaded gun, a Santa Rosa police detective said.

The Santa Rosa Police Department's Gang Crimes Team has been investigating the involvement of Christopher Mancinas in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics for several months, police said.

After obtaining a search warrant, gang detectives assisted by K-9 and patrol officers stopped a vehicle driven by Mancinas on U.S. Highway 101 at the Steele Lane exit in Santa Rosa just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Detective John Cregan of the Gang Crimes Team.

Traffic was diverted away from the off-ramp for about 15 minutes while the 29-year-old Santa Rosa resident was detained for investigation, police said.

Mancinas, a known gang participant, has several prior convictions for violent felonies and was out on bail for a felony assault when he was detained on Sunday.

When detectives searched Mancinas' vehicle, they found one-quarter pound of methamphetamine and a small amount of cash, Cregan said.

A subsequent search of his home in the Monte Vista apartment complex on the 1400 block of Range Avenue at 4:50 p.m. yielded some cocaine, a loaded firearm, and a larger amount of cash that brought the total amount of confiscated money to $11,000, Cregan said.

Mancinas was arrested on charges including transportation and possession of an illegal substance for sale, possession of cocaine for sale, committing a felony while out on bail, being a convicted felon in possession of a loaded firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition, police said. He also faces two gang enhancements, they said.

Mancinas was booked into the Sonoma County jail and his bail has been set at $250,000, police said.
