Fairfield Man Shot In Face During Argument
FAIRFIELD (CBS/BCN) -- Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting another man in the face during an argument in Fairfield on Sunday morning.
At about 11 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1100 block of Alaska Avenue.
They arrived and found a 50-year-old Berkeley man suffering from gunshot wounds to his hand and face, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Investigators determined that the victim and suspect know each other, and that the shooting stemmed from an argument.
The suspected shooter, 55-year-old Hayward resident Gary Wayne Cotton, had fled afterward, and a description of Cotton and his car was broadcast over police radio.
Within a few minutes, a Fairfield police officer spotted Cotton sitting in a car parked at Tabor Avenue and Bristol Lane, nearly a mile south of the crime scene, police said.
Cotton was arrested, and a loaded semi-automatic handgun was found in the parked car, police said.
Cotton was booked into Solano County Jail on charges of attempted murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a loaded firearm. He also had several Alameda County arrest warrants.
