STOCKTON (CBS/AP) -- Prosecutors say they're seeking a death sentence against a California man charged with killing a bank robbery hostage used as a human shield in a shootout with police.

San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Robert Himelblau on Monday announced the decision against Jaime Ramos, who awaits trial for the July 16 robbery of a Bank of the West branch in Stockton.

Ramos is charged with the killing of 41-year-old Misty Holt-Singh, a bank customer.

Police say Ramos and the two other armed men robbed the bank, taking three hostages. Two other hostages survived with injuries.

Prosecutors will seek a life prison sentence for Pablo Ruvalcaba, accused of driving the men to the bank.

The men's attorneys did not immediately respond for calls seeking comment.
