Daily Madden: A's, Giants Appear Headed In Different Directions

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The San Francisco Giants were shut out for the fourth time in eight games Monday night, this time by the Oakland A's, who own the best record in baseball.

"The A's looked a lot fresher," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "They looked quicker, they looked like they're into it."

Despite their lengthy slump, the Giants are only one game behind the first place Dodgers in the National League West - although they were nine games up before going into their June swoon. "Maybe it's because they lost and maybe it's because their arrow is going down and the A's (arrow) is going up. They just looked like they didn't have the life in them that the A's did," Madden said.

"That's when you have to work out of it. That's when you have to flip-flop the situation and turn it around and bring life and stuff... That can all change in the next game."

The teams meet again in Oakland Tuesday night before heading to AT&T Park in San Francisco for two more.
