"We've almost tripled usership in the past year," said Metropolitan Transportation Commission spokesman John Goodwin.
Still, he says, that comes with growing pains. Some cable car operators haven't been trained to properly collect fares with Clipper cards.
"I spoke with Muni just today, and they're on it, fully training all of their cable car operators," said Goodwin.
Customer complaints include overcharging on fares.
Overall the program is a success. Over 90 percent of BART riders say they're satisfied with Clipper and would recommend it.
"We're getting some good word of mouth, and the usage of the Clipper Card continues to increase at a very rapid rate," said Goodwin.
