Berkeley Shooting Victim Identified As Son Of Drug Rehab Expert
BERKELEY (AP) - A man shot to death near a Berkeley street corner has been identified as the son of a drug rehabilitation expert, who acknowledged the man had fallen into addiction.
The San Francisco Chronicle says the Alameda County coroner's office identified the man as 35-year-old Gary Ferguson Jr., of Oakland.
Berkeley police Sgt. Mary Kusmiss says a second man injured in the shooting Tuesday underwent surgery at a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Police say the victims appear to have been targeted; witnesses say they heard at least a dozen gunshots. Authorities hope nearby surveillance video will help provide descriptions of the shooters.
Ferguson's father, Gary Sr., was once director of the Sobriety Through Education and Peer Support program.
